Euro shows signs of end of Bull Run!!

Speculation that the euro’s seven-year bull run was coming to an end intensified on Thursday as the single currency fell to five-week lows against the dollar and the pound.

Many economists are reaching the view that eurozone growth has slowed to the point where the European Central Bank will have to cut interest rates or risk stunting economic growth.

“Within the space of one week, the outlook for the eurozone has worsened significantly,” said Carsten Brzeski at ING Capital Markets. “Sound economic fundamentals are melting away.”

Recent eurozone data have been disappointing, with German business sentiment, measured by the Ifo institute, in April recording its biggest monthly fall since September 2001, while eurozone purchasing managers’ indexes have also fallen.

The European Central Bank has so far maintained a hawkish stance on interest rates.

As the Federal Reserve has slashed its main interest rate by 3.25 percentage points to 2 per cent since the start of the market turmoil last summer, and the Bank of England cut its main lending rate by 0.75 per cent to 5 per cent, the ECB has kept its official interest rate on hold at 4 per cent.

The diverging interest rate paths between the three central banks have given investors a reason to keep buying the euro, pushing it nearly 70 per cent higher against the dollar since 2001 and up almost 30 per cent against the pound.

Last month the euro reached an all-time high of $1.6018 against the dollar and a record high of £0.8097 against the pound. But it has since fallen 3.6 per cent, on Wednesday hitting $1.5438 against the dollar and £0.7802 against the pound, its weakest level since March 25.

Saturday!

Today marks our final 10 day countdown!!

I am currently sitting in room 143 waiting my Contracts final in 40 minutes! BJ should be joining me soon and Pat has his at 1:30PM !!

This will be a great test to get behind us......

I just talked to some chick who I thought was going to Europe with us, she isn't....after about 5 minutes of green tea induced rambling about how much fun we're going to have she informed me that she dropped out last minute....lame.

My Birthday is on Monday! Cinco De Mayo :)
Finals + Birthday = Lame!

So I may postpone it and celebrate in Rome or something.

Okay, think positive contractual thoughts for us today...... (there is no E in Parol, for the Parol Evidence Rule...FYI.....)

10 MORE DAYS, 10 MORE DAYS, 10 MORE DAYS

PS
Last night there was a VERY interesting special on ABC news about the secrets of the Sistine Chapel. I found it interesting and all the shots of Florence and Rome really got me excited.

Friday, May 2

To Coincide.....

To coincide with the current, rather negative poll up...regarding what we WONT miss...I added another one asking what we WILL miss the most during our travels.

All quiet....

A little quiet on the posting today,

all three of us have a big Contracts test tomorrow. We have sort of a weird combination of anxiety mixed with apathy. Normally those two would be in contradiction to each other ... but not for this test.

7 Days from right now we will all be done with our 1L year! Horaay!

I have been doing some looking online and saw some fun things to do in Amsterdam that doesn't include Space Cake, Coffee Houses or the Red Light District.....like the Heineken factory tour or visit the Anne Frank museum, which is the building in which she and her family hid during the German invasion.
Plus I keep seeing word about their amazing cheeses there, so I hope to take some sort of cheese tour :)
*I can hear Pat and BJ rolling their eyes at that idea*

New Poll

New Poll is up...first one on the right hand side..

Countdown!

11 Days!

Dollar holding steady at 1.54 .... better than the nearly 1.60 last week!

No finals today, we all have a Contracts final tomorrow.

Thursday, May 1

The Faux Hawk

BJ is unsure what to do with his hair for the trip. I suggest "the faux hawk." I found both an instructional graphic on how to cut the faux hawk and a prime example of one, sported by one of the ladies' favorites. BJ, lets do it now so it has some time to grow out before europe.

According to Urban Dictionary:
Faux Hawk
A mohawk, but instead of a "real" mohawk where you shave the sides of your head, you just glue up the middle part of your regular hair so that it is in the style of the mohawk.

"There was a punk show tonight, but I didn't want to shave the sides of my head so I just made my hair into a fauxhawk."

Should BJ get a faux hawk? COMMENT YES/NO (I apparently don't have the authority to make polls and your comments will be persuasive...)

New Poll!

Well, looking at the last poll regarding Italian foods, our friends and family love their carbs :) With Pasta and Bread being the top two foods you would be most excited for!

The other three were prosciutto, cheese, and olives...I couldn't really decide because I think that prosciutto, cheese and olives, in between two pieces of bread, with a side of pasta and a glass of wine....that is the food item I am most excited about lol

The poll has been moved lower on the right side

I added a new poll in its place, this one asks what will annoy us first on this trip? We are going into this thing realistically, knowing that we will get annoyed with each other and stuff like that...but what will get us first!?

Tick Tock Tick Tock

12 DAYS !!!!!

:) Wow, it is getting closer, we should all probably start thinking about packing and getting everything finalized...oh wait, we have finals! :(

GOOD LUCK to Pat, who has a Constitutional Law final today.
GOOD LUCK to Me and BJ, who have to turn in our take home Constitutional Law final today.

The Euro to USD???? Down to 1.54 !!

yesssss, lol Those changes in a penny may seem unsubstantial, but with apartment rent and travel and stuff we will be spending thousands and thousands over a short period of time, so a penny change in the exchange rate can seriously add up!

Annoying reminder....

Today the first of my text books for this summer's classes came in....an annoying reminder that yes there will be learning, testing, paper writing, case reading, socratic methoding, going on for the majority of this trip :(

My new book I got........
Comparative Constitutional Review...sounds exciting huh?

With chapter headings like "The Italian Constitutional Court"
and "Germany and the Constitutional Appeal"
and "The end of Parliamentary Supremacy in France: A Priori Abstract Review"

wow, I can hardly contain myself.

**side note: the Professor who teaches this course reads this blog... :) I really am excited Professor, I'm sure this will be a wonderful course and I will not be hung over for any of the 9:30AM classes!**

FYI

The time difference between Pacific Standard Time and Italy ???

just add 9 hours.....

So exactly two weeks from the moment I am typing this, I will likely be the responsible one, as it will be 12:15AM, so I'll surely be having a water with lemon in Rome trying to make sure Pat and Brian aren't getting into any trouble as they take shots and pound beers.....

wish me luck....

:) :) :)

Countdown!

We leave in 13 days! LUCKY 13!!! :)

The US/Euro rate is holding at $ 1.55 BUT it has dropped .001 !
Every little bit counts....c'mon y'all spend those rebate checks, don't be responsible and pay off debts, go buy American made goods....
offset the fact that us three will be spending our economic stimulus checks in Foreign Markets!

:)

Pat's Pic

That is a pic Pat took when he visited Jaunessa back in the day, he isn't there already!

Just for those readers who didn't know that......his wifey did an undergrad program in Florence and Pat visited her. She has been a wonderful bundle of knowledge :)

Firenze

(Firenze = Italian for Florence)
Our home city in 2 weeks and 4 days

Surprisingly, this photograhic masterpiece was taken by none other than yours truely.

Exhibit A

Before you commit to your answers to the polls on the right regarding who will get hurt first or if BJ will make it to his birthday ... if it pleases the court, ladies and gentlemen of the jury ... exhibit A...

it was a nice, serene, calm, sunny Sunday BBQ :) for most of us .... hehe someone found the Lesbian's champagne!!

Travel Channel....

So, right before I went to Vegas last year, I was pissed because it seemed like months before my trip all that I saw on those channels were Vegas stuff, but when you get it all planned out and then want to watch shows on it, they are nowhere to be found....
well, same with this trip!
I mean, I remember seeing endless food network, Rachel Ray with that god-awful laugh traipsing all over Ireland and London giving Americans a bad name, or Giada De Laurentes doing all the wine and cheese tours in Italy....and now, we have a trip planned and every other show on food network is Bobby Flay picking fights with with these poor people who are trying to make a living selling grilled cheese in middle of butt-f***ing egypt and for some damn reason on the Travel Channel they were having POKER Tournament Marathons!
I thought it was bad enough that Poker had a fricking link on ESPN.COM, but now it is preempting a European special I could watch that would show me all the places we could go to if we had a job :)

okay..venting....done...

Venice....

Okay, so we are doing a day in Venice on Saturday May 31st!

I have been spending some between studying time reading about some of the history of some of the art we are going to see, I am very excited....this is going to be really amazing.

I mean, you have to see the sketch by comedian Eddie Izzard who talks about Americans and our lack of contact with true history.... "They redecorated that building to how it looked 50 years ago! No way..no one was alive then!" :)
I am excited to see original pieces of art, sculptures, buildings from 1,000 years ago!

....I am being serious, this is not a feeble attempt to intermingle some 'nice' posts amongst the booze, amsterdam and speedo talk of earlier posts....so as to make mom happy :)

Scotty Doesn't Know

Working on a take home final for my Constitutional Law class and watching EuroTrip!

Sort of gets me excited but also a little nervous. I guess don't go to a sex club in Amsterdam that gives you a free t-shirt with flyer, don't start a fight with soccer hooligans in London and when traveling to Munich, Germany make sure you don't overshoot it and end up in the Eastern Bloc! Oh and watch out for creepy French men on the trains when the cabins get dark in the tunnels...I'm just saying...
I am sure this movie is completely accurate!

Done and done!

Property test done...four more to go, then Europe!!

Sigh....excited, anxious....

I believe Brian (BJ) is finishing up reservations with our hotel in Capri! It looks pretty cool, fairly cheap for the area, which is nice, we just need a bathroom and a place that has a lock on the door!

I'll post pictures of the place when we have it set! I'll forward out our itinerary when we finish it up....as said before, Venice has been shrunk to one day.

BJ & I both need haircuts bad, but we're waiting it out until as close as we can to the trip, BJ has got the length to where it flips when he has a baseball cap on ... mine is just shaggy and not attractive.

More later, including updates on the sick speedos we are getting!
